How to Create a Bootable USB for Mac? (BigSur) or any MacOs

 

How to Succeed as a Computer Technician: Tips and Strategies To create a bootable USB drive of macOS Big Sur, you will need a USB drive with at least 16 GB of storage space and a computer running macOS Big Sur or later. Here are the steps to create the bootable USB drive:

  • Connect the USB drive to your computer.
  • Open the "Terminal" application, which can be found in the "Utilities" folder within the "Applications" folder.
  • In the Terminal, type the following command and press Enter:

sudo /Applications/Install\ macOS\ Big\ Sur.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/MyVolume

Note: Replace "MyVolume" with the name of your USB drive.

  • Press Enter when prompted for your administrator password.
  • The Terminal will display a series of messages as it creates the bootable USB drive.
  • Once the process is complete, type the following command and press Enter:

diskutil list

This will list all connected drives and their disk identifiers.

  • Now you can check your USB Drive, it should be bootable and ready to be used to install Big Sur on another Mac.
  •   Quit the Terminal and eject the USB drive. The USB drive is now ready to be used to install macOS Big Sur on another Mac.
